If Plantasia (album by Mort Garson) was a video it will be this one.
Feel huge impact by Van Neistat
I am definitely a fan of his musical choices haha, so I ended up recording a bunch of synthy sounds of my own and they're really useful!
What daily planner do you use?
It’s a Hobonichi Techo original version, A6 size!
@@KelBelter Thank you so much. All of your work and content is very inspiring
first time watching your videos, and I feel so inspired! I've always wanted to make a zine, thank you for breaking down your process!
i love your doodle diary too, definietly want to give that a try! new subbie :)
Thank you! Hope it gave you some ideas for a zine of your own :-)
The way i used to pronounce this as “zyne” 😭 I cringe
from my experience screen printing at home can get frustrating with inconsistency burning screens, waiting around, cleaning up, etc. this seems to solve all of those issues. I just can't believe I'm just now hearing about it.
Hi Kel! I first saw your work in instagram with the postcard calendars, very happy to see you in my recommended! I love your art style so much, and this was a very fun video ❤
Thanks Pauline! Happy you enjoyed it and that you found me here too ☺️
Your riso is anything but simple . It’s stunning artwork
I just love finding new zine artists, your style makes me happy ❤
Long arm staplers are a must have:)
your freckles are so pretty!!!
Haha thank you! ☺️
What do you use to to do screen printing?
Recently, I got an xTool system to do screenprinting at home! Otherwise, I do a lot of risograph printing on a risograph printer that I have at the studio!
Do you have any folding/assembly tips? My edges never line up that nicely :,)
First making sure all the pages are the exact same size before folding helps a lot! But after that, I just make sure that my folded edges line up nicely because I can adjust the other three sides later. I do this by using the guillotine to trim a little off the edges as a last step after the glue is dry if I want them to look more 'perfect.' But sometimes not necessary if the folded pages were the right size to begin with :-)
@@KelBelter Thanks so much! :)
I've got to ask, which printer did you use to print these 🤔 and maybe you should add part two in the description link.
I used a risograph printer! Part two isn’t out yet because I’m the band hasn’t released the album yet, but when it is I’ll definitely add it to the description.
This whole video is so comfy. I really love your diary of little drawings. I want to start doing something similar
I’ve found it’s super helpful for ideating later, and making them so small makes it very low pressure to keep up with! Definitely recommend it
such a lovely zine! i have one question, though, how do you put your artwork altogether on one canvas with all the layers, and stuff?
Hi! I usually use Adobe photoshop or illustrator to arrange the pages! But you can use any image editing software to do it. I save my finished pages as jpgs and then arrange them on the correct paper size. If you don’t have Adobe, you can also use web editing apps like Photopea
@@KelBelterthanks a lot!
This is soooooo helpful!! love everything about this video🫶
Wow i just wanted to say that im super happy to found your channel right before i go to bed lol love your editing and your art works!!! so happy that we living in the same country it somehow make me extra comfy while im watching your videos haha
So happy to hear you’re watching from the same place! ☺️
I really like your videos :) Very inspiring
Thanks so much for watching!
I loved this video, it was very inspiring! Where do you get your daily planner? I really like the idea of a little daily visual record.
It’s a hobonichi techo, which you can find on Amazon and maybe also Etsy/in some stationery stores. If you search ‘hobonichi techo 2024 a6’ it should come up!
Came to seoul for my solo-exhibiton in March. I wish I knew about your studio. Would definitely have visited~ :(
Definitely visit us next time!
Would you recommend this for a beginner who has never silkscreened before? Or would there be any other options you would recommend?
I think this is very beginner friendly because everything is already put together for you, so there’s less chance for human error. Minimal setup time and easy to get the hang of. If you want to just get a feel for silkscreen though, sometimes you can order screens with your image burned into them from a studio/online! Then you can just try the printing part before committing to making your own space/investing in more expensive tools.
Greetings from Brasil. ❤
Loved your video! Thanks for making it. The x-tool system looks intriguing, but your link in the description doesn’t work.
Thanks for letting me know! I just updated the link :-)
Aww you guys are adorable! We love a creative couple 🙏
You’re getting some hate here but ignore it, it’s okay to do things you’re own way 👍 thanks for sharing
BRAVA!
I was the 1k like 😗🫧
Bjork vibes
Is the step that I'm missing "knowing what a Zines" is? I think that's what it is.
The main focus of this video is the step of prototyping/making a dummy before printing your final work :-)
🤦♀️ magaZINES as in a short magazine 😂
At least she didn’t pronounce it ZYNES 😂
😂 same
Afraid of the maga?
I like the small format. Would love to see a video about your sketchbooks😊
Yeah! I’d love to explore that topic a bit more too. Have been using my sketchbook more consistently this year and it’s been so helpful whenever I try to make a bigger project like this
Your art style, zine idea, editing... It's so comforting
Thank you for the sweet comment!
so adorable
I'm a designer by training. The process you're explaining is what I do for graphic design type projects. Part of the ethos of zine making for me is that they're quick and dirty, and imperfect, punk-style. For me, zine making is an excuse to NOT do the careful process you use here. Though I can imagine that you'd sell better zines that have been carefully designed. There's no wrong way, this isn't a criticism. I think zines can be amazing too when people DO miss the steps of making prototypes. Single-drafted zines can be beautiful in their rawness.
Sure! Everyone has their own way. Both are valid. In my opinion, zines have also evolved over time to cover a larger category of work from ‘quick and dirty’ photocopies to also more polished visual publications. Furthermore, many people don’t come from a design background, or have 0 experience printing and self publishing. So, I think it’s nice to explain the options of prototyping, so people can tailor it to their needs.
Such an amazing vid Kelly 😮 From the Editing , Explanations (story telling) , Art direction and even the creative way you did the sponsorship was so well done 👍
Thanks David! Appreciate you :-)
why did it took me so long to find you? loved watching this :,)
Better late than never~ Thank you for finding and watching 😊
Getting some serious Van Neistat vibes from this video. Great job.
Appreciate that! 😊 I clearly am also a fan of synth-y sounds
You inspire me so much
Cool video ❤ from switzerland
I started watching this primarily because I love all your videos, though as soon as you said we could go back to old work and make a zine out of anything, I felt MASSIVE inspiration to try making my own tiny zine
Yes! Love to hear that. Hope you found something fun in the archives!
I've always found zines so fascinating 🥰
Great video as always. Love how youre always practicing/sharing your sustainable & recycling ethos. ❤
Thank you! Finding new ways to use old materials is so fun
@@KelBelter yes!! As a fellow artist/printmaker & past commercial printer, I wholeheartedly appreciate it
Did you show how to fold them? I want to try that last version of the fold out zine and that page turning one.🤔
All of the zines in this video have the same format since they are all prototypes of the same thing. The cover is 2x the length of the normal pages, so you fold it in half, and then in half again! In part 2 I can show a more detailed breakdown, but you can see me folding and unfolding it several times in this video too! Besides the cover, the rest of the zine is very simple. It’s just pages folded in half and stapled :-) I’ll also do a photo breakdown and write up on the free version of my Patreon if that would be helpful!
Hi! Just wanted to let you know I uploaded the unfolding zine tutorial with photos and directions on my Patreon! It’s available for free there, link is in the video description :-)
@@KelBelterappreciate you letting me know and I’ll definitely try it out.
Such an inspiring video!! I love your illustration. Thank you for sharing your work!
Thanks so much Sara!
Keep it up!!
Always! ☺️
Can’t wait to see the final zine! I love the small fold-out format 😊
Thanks Angela! Same, really hoping it translates well to the final version too 🙂
🤩
AYO THE FIRST🍑
im taking a couple printmaking classes at my college and we’ve been getting into screen printing for our final and i cannot tell you how clutch this video came in. im very big on color and we have a limit of 3 layers so this helped me figure out how to sneak out a few more colors in there without having to do as many test prints!! saved me a headache, fantastic video :)
That's such a huge compliment! I'm so psyched to know it helped you with your project!!
3 years late to see this, but it turned out so beautifully! Subscribing!
Thank you for subbing and for the lovely comment! ☺️
